Electric Angel & [Psychokinetic] Eyeball Pulling

The first of Plum Parrot‘s Cyber Dreams novels has such extreme Cyberpunk 2077 energy that it actually went and made me reinstall the game (which was a mistake since despite the skill overhaul it’s still the same now as it was then). That aside the book’s notable for having a protagonist who makes some extraordinarily dumb mistakes at first only to wise up as events progress, and less fortunately for a cast of characters overly fond of making exhaustingly exclamatory statements… exhausting enough that I’m on the fence regarding whether or not to bother with the follow-ups.

FreeID‘s [Psychokinetic] Eyeball Pulling series is a bit of a bait and switch, though I’m not sure if it was intentional or something that happened more naturally. Starting out like a hard to describe team-based post-apocalyptic survival sort of thing, by the end of the first book it’s basically become a pure fantasy version of Solo Leveling with a touch of Beneath the Dragoneye Moons. While the setting here is not as well formed as in either of those series (and there are some technical issues in the second book like doubled sentences), the event development manages to scratch that ‘complete domination via overpowered protagonist’ itch perfectly well enough.
