Sword Saint Adel’s Second Chance & Hazure Skill #1-3

A work by the same author as Eiyuuou, Bu o Kiwameru Tame Tenseisu, Kenseijo Adel no Yarinaoshi (English subtitle: A Peerless Swordmaster Begins Anew as a Saint to Save the Princess) has a number of similarities to that series. For the most part they’re basic genre-related aspects though and the story/character details are rather different; I in fact didn’t even notice they were by the same person until the Afterword section explicitly mentioned it (which was fortunate since I probably wouldn’t have even picked it up had I known).

Anyway it’s decently entertaining if a bit on the rushed side, so I plan to keep following along so long as the author doesn’t repeat the mistakes he made with that pervious series.

Hazure Skill (English subtitle: The Guild Member with a WORTHLESS SKILL Is Actually a LEGENDARY ASSASSIN) is a series I initially skipped over due to some negative reviews complaining about a messed up story structure that was difficult to follow… and I have no idea what book they were reading because it certainly wasn’t any of these. Something of a cross between Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica and Lv2 kara Cheat this series is an overpowered protagonist comedy with an ecchi subfocus and a fondness for small forward timeskips.

Most chapters end with one and sometimes they even show up mid-chapter, giving the books a sort of anthology or 4-koma feel to them. A more minor thing to note would be that the title is a bit of a misdirection considering the protagonist possesses obscene physical, magical, and tactical abilities wholly independent of his relatively weak skill. The skill is completely beside the point.

If that were all I’d probably keep reading since the comedy bits are often pretty good, but, unfortunately, there’s also a rather large flaw: The romance aspects. They’re real bad, with innumerable lust-crazed women and girls throwing themselves at the protagonist often for no more reason than because he’s stronger than they are (to be fair, the rare male side characters throwing themselves at anyone with big breasts aren’t depicted any better). It gets old fast.
